Engagement & Marketing

Type: 1 year contract position, 25 hours per week or 0.6 FTE equivalent (partially WFH, partially on-site)

About us:  

The White Room is a charity and creative studio space that removes barriers to making art for people with learning disabilities and other under-served community members. We foster self-expression, celebrate creativity, and promote greater inclusion in the arts. We sit under our parent organisation SkillWise.   

About the role:

In this role, you will engage with the wider community to promote the work of artists involved in the White Room creative space and to build greater awareness of our kaupapa. Using external communications such as our social media and website, public events, and art/art product sales opportunities, you will work with artists to showcase their art and build a community of supporters for the White Room. The secondary function of this role is to fulfil artists’ goals of selling/generating income from their work, as well as generating a small income stream for The White Room's operations.  

Responsibilities:  

  • Co-manage online engagement for The White Room 

  • Involvement in and planning for all events and exhibitions 

  • Development and oversight of art products and sales 

  • Maintain and develop relationships with key stakeholders 

  • Oversee and report on annual budget 

About you:  

Must have... 

  • An open-minded, people-centred approach 

  • An affinity with great art!  

  • Proactivity, adaptability, and resourcefulness 

  • Basic computer skills 

  • A clear Police vet is required for this role

  • An art or design background  

  • Disability sector experience 

  • Communications and marketing experience 

  • Small business experience 

  • Events management experience 

  • Experience with some or all of the following tools: Canva, Adobe suite, Squarespace, MailChimp, Excel.
